Perfecting the Puppet Show

One of the most violent protests ever held in Kerala educational sector is in the Self Financing college arena. After the Government decided to allow self financing colleges in the state, with the condition that half the seats will be given at govt fees through the common entrance, the developments has been disheartening.India is a country where a large part of the population enjoys the sudsidesed educational facilities.Same was the case of Engg colleges in Kerala.
Penetration of privatization in the field has been far from the kind of blessing as proposed at its beginning by the then Chief Minister AK Antony.2 self financing colleges same as 1 govt college was to remove the professional education problem completely from the land. But the inverse effects have made bright candidates to look for opportunities in neighbouring states. The causes for this failure are many. The main ones are

1. Entrance examinations though of high class and quality but fail completely in the sense that 99 percent getting admission into professional colleges get that only after undergoing heavy training from private institutions, which itself is costly enough. So the idea of providing opportunities to poor children has been shunted.

2. Private parties cant have a service mentality. They work for profit.

3. Rapid and indepth colonialisation by religious organisations have made the educational sector tainted .These parties try to(as they say) provide help to their community only and also find it as a mask to pour the foreign money.

4. Religious organisations losing logical and forward mentality.A reminder of the Dark age of Europe.Their influence in political policies have never been appreciated.

The justification that it is impossible to exist with govt fees could nt be more illogical as if this was true there was no reason why these private parties accepted the govt conditions once.It coud nt be that a person sustained losses all these years and is still going on with colleges.

The most shameful fact is that it is the Christian management that is showing the greatest resistance.Minority status as a shield in defence they intend to get armoured by the rich and influencial.

Initial phase of Self financing experiment was a large success with the KSRTC and IHRD and the colleges under them having indirect control of the government. Also the rise of colleges under them into reputation(Model Engg College, College of Engg Chengannur, SCT College of Engg.) gave impetus to the thought of improving the professional education eventually without burdening the government treasury. But these foresights were but drowned in debates and discussions.

The only students organisation which had the guts to stand against "dark age" was the Students Federation of India. They had involved themselves in a "bloody war" against the private managements, which though had been at times far from moral means had a decisive role in the society. But the developments after the Communist govt took charge has shown that the SFI was only a being used by the party to burn up issues they could not publically involve themselves in.The tales of sacrifice and strength sung by SFI can now be dumped into the waste baskets in the courtyards of the communist leaders. The Self financing problem is losing its priority. The fact that the controversy is flamed only during admissions every year is itself a proof of the govts fear to approach the issue.

It cannot be underseen that even this recessive climate students opting for Engg subjects have not come down.Recession has led professionals to think into areas other than IT and this would in my opinion bring in a fresh pool of professional engineers working closer to their country. But this inflow of talent is marred by the inappropriate decisions and greed exhibited by the social 'reform makers'.

Train Journey

I got a little journey this Tuesday.Got to go to my college to collect some stuff.I dont have a reservation in the train. So i got to go by the II nd class. No no no. Not when i am bad at stomach.
The ordinary compartment is always full packed. But since i have no luggage getting in should nt be impossible.
The full packed train ,stinking dirty doors and floors, people lying flat on the "Only Luggage" portion all this is nt a problem as 4 years of college had made this a daily sight to me.But all i cant afford is the bathroom.

I remember the only day i got into a very dry, and non stinky bathroom. It was in a passenger train.I was surprised to find it in such good condition.proudly i used it and tried to flush....... bhum.. The water tank too is as dry as the bathroom. It was nt the fact of leaving the bathroom without a flush that hurt me.But the fact that i had littered possibly the only non stinky bathrooms i had ever found in Indian Railways.

And the day i got stomach probs.... Its not about my stomach or about the stinkyness. Here my thought ponders in to the polluted environment the unlucky children living near the railway tracks undergo.i ve seen many of them playing on these tracks and the thought that i am here offering them a great sight the next morning.

For a country with its majority bitten by poverty its not the cleanliness or luxury but the basic facility provided for travel that is being counted. With the largest and cheapest railway may be we do not deserve better. But is that it.Is that a compramise that we should make for the money.Oh yes because its not my family.i can travel with half the price that i have to pay for bus and spent the rest of the money on pizza and coffee. Why should i care.

Is it possible.. a ragging free society

Ragging is a criminal offence. So why do 'We' still indulge in it. Why cant it be irradicated?
On my first day at college i get to hear 2 hour long speech from principal criticizing ragging and explaining how strictly it is banned there.Ironically I get to the class fearing the seniors who stood outside my class and then a Sir comes in to give another speech.

Sir:Though i am personally in favour of light ragging it cannot be allowed here.

whats that ..How should i take it, as an encouragement to ragging or opposite

this same opinion is shared by most teachers.

So what is this light ragging.
No one knows.

My senor asked."Do you know whats ragging"
I said yes and tried to explain.

i got a cruel look + "you hav nt had a drop of ragging and you say you know it"
Well thats a common line.Every year seniors try that on their juniors as though they have been through the harshest treatments.

More pathetic are some guys within my batch.
"Next year i ll show my juniors"

I saw some extreme harassment of a junior by my classmate and tried to stop it and i get this" I have gone through a lot last year.So dont stop me now."

i am of the opinion that ragging cannot be removed by a law.
It should be a gradual process. Its not just the colleges. In schools too it is being practised. So from school level a proper plan has to be adopted.

Most times i have been ragged in my class itself between hours. When teachers come in these guys just walk out.A smile is what the teaches gives him.
No teacher and no college official will publicize the incidents of ragging in their college.it might affect the image of the college.

From the school experiences some people come to colleges having in their mind, ragging as a necessity in society. They have lived with it and enjoyed it in their schools and hence they find ways to justify it.The motives could be many.
But its a fact that ragging is an area with no girl boy inequality.Raggings in girls hostel are never of lower grade. And i have seen many girls being stronger supporters of it than boys.It could be because of the lack of freedom they experience at homes that they retort to ragging.
Only cure can be to develop discipline in students from school level.Explain to them the negatives of ragging. Many schools do not give adequate importance to discipline.Especially the govt schools.Teachers are more or less indifferent towards their responsibility to care and look into each child.I hope the govt tries to take much more logical steps to stop ragging than just enforcing strict laws.

Proper parenting and teaching are its only cure.

US, Russia and India

One does not need to watch Indian politics with much strain to realize that the communist manifesto in India has a strong repulsion to US and attraction towards Russia.Russia had been a primary supplier of defence equipments from pre cold war times. And this relation has come to co developed Brahmos. All thats good but the slightest move to improve the relations with US comes with dreadful consequences as pulling off the support to a govt. But for the first time here we have the communist leaders come up for a logical cause. The end user monitoring system. As per improving transfer of equipment and know how from the western country the visiting secretary of state Hilary Clinton has made it clear that any tranfer between countries will take place only if they are allowed to monitor how the tranferred 'goods' are being used.Though the US makes it a mandatory requirement that has to be fulfilled by any country it raises some serious security concerns. Not that we should in any way doubt the ministers of India in there ability, it is a requirement that before such agreements are made proper talks be held at the parliament level.
It cannot be undemined that the NAM has of years become less and less important after the cold war. This could be the reason why increasing relationship with West has upset Russia. Here what one must realize is that the defence equipment sales has drifted its epicentres which were just US and Soviet during the cold war.It would really be a challenge to the Indian govt to go on with global trends without hurting long lived ties.

Who says there is lack of opportunities...
There' s just lack of talent
July 22, one of the longest Solar Eclipses ever.Wow, great to hear.Lucky are the guys in better cities, they can witness it. As old as the records of eclipse are the tales behind it. But do you really think of all those grandmas words have no value at all. Then think twice.
Here is something cool.During eclipse radiations are more prone to the earths atmosphere which are capable of ioniozing(eg. water to H+ and OH-) materials. Even food. Some types of ionised food could serve as poison.Thats why food materials are all covered and kept.
Blogging, its like a curse. Ever have i tried it, a lot things around me somehow let got the thought in my mind that those 'lot things', which are never very good, are a result of my blog.Thats the reason why i get my blog deleted after a few months of activity even though i did get some praise from some friends. But its a better sticking agent than fevicol, never lets off you. Come on, we are stepping into an internet synonymous with blogging.Happy blogging .....
